I’m happy to report that yes, we did. Yay for us! In 2010 the sales figures show there were 238 Portsmouth homes sold compared to 228 sales in 2009. That’s a 4.2% increase; a modest number to be sure but after the past 4 years we’re willing to take what we can get.
The red line above shows the total sales of single family homes, the green line represents condos, and the red line on top is the combined totals of homes and condos.
There may be a few not yet reported sales floating around out there somewhere that will come in over the next week or so but that could only make the figures look even better.
Now that we’re into 2011 what does the Portsmouth real estate future look like? I booted up my crystal ball to take a look and here’s what I saw.
The National Association of Realtors (NAR) has some projections for 2011. Based on these numbers things should look better all over. Our Portsmouth Seacoast area is way ahead of the national numbers on unemployment. Nationally the unemployment rate is around 9.3%, in Portsmouth it’s at 4%!
Lawrence Yun, NAR chief economist, said historically high housing affordability is boosting sales activity. “In addition to exceptional affordability conditions, steady improvements in the economy are helping bring buyers into the market,” he said. “But further gains are needed to reach normal levels of sales activity.”
So all in all it looks like 2011 is going to be an even better year than 2010.
Potential Portsmouth and Seacoast area homebuyers are encouraged to visit Portsmouth New Hampshire & southern Maine homes to see all the area listings for sale.
Seacoast sellers are also encouraged to give us a call at RE/MAX Coast To Coast Properties at 603-431-1111, ask for Ann Cummings or Jim Lee or email us: Jim@JimLee.com or Ann@AnnCummings.com and let’s talk about getting your house on the market and getting it sold. We had another good year in 2010 selling homes and already have several buyers lined up to buy homes through us in 2011; maybe one of them could be yours.
Happy to answer any questions about the Portsmouth & Seacoast area and any of your real estate buying or selling questions.
